[opensuse] Pulseaudio update breaks my audio
Hi, just to ask before filing a bug report. The most recent pulseaudio update openSUSE-RU-2015:0741-1 did brake the audio on my Lenovo X201 notebook. The HDMI sound is not available any more within applications, but HDMI works (a bit scratchy so) when it is selected before starting applications using audio. It reproduces the test sound. Once any application that uses audio is started, the mixer only shows "Pulseaudio" as selection. This is a Problem because I am using a notebook on an Ultrabase docking station and normally you have to choose between HDMI, Analog and others. Now what happens is Default Alsa Output (currenlty PulseAudioSound Server) is default and even if I go to a highter Priority for HDMI it is not proposed or accepted by any application. How can I tell Pulseaudio to use HDMI when available as default. Currently I can use HDMI at all anymore. Only the analogue card inside of the notebook and the notebook speaker are used. Suggestions and help highly welcome. --- Alle Postfächer an einem Ort. Today I had similar problem. No sound and no sound card listen in KDE config center. Otherwise no error report. Finally I removed the sound card in YaST and configured it again. Reboot and done... such a lovely, windows-like fix. Does anyone have any idea what exactly has happened here? BTW, I also noted the issue. The "fix", however, didn't work for me. Youtube videos are also unviewable, they simply show static vs "the plug-in crashed". Downgrading to previous pulseaudio version will temporary solve it. It will need to file a bug report. This pulseaudio update made sound server shut on some GNOME desktops and/or disabled sound keys (hardware). Pulseaudio may reduce general volume level for some KDE desktops needing to slide the level up (3X) to be capable to hear anything playing on. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Pulseaudio may reduce general volume level for some KDE desktops needing to slide the level up (3X) to be capable to hear anything playing on. I spend a couple of hours with this last night and actually fixed it.
Somehow the home for pulse moved, but /etc/passwd didn't get the message. This left pulse with nowhere to write it's sockets etc. Without those pulse become (at best) non compos mentis (not functional) so... I modified /etc/passwd so that pulse could use it's, seemingly hard coded, home and all was well The fix not so difficult. I am FAR more interested in how this happened. Bueller? Bueller? Today, the pulseaudio update could fix several bugs on previous release. At least on GNOME. KDE still has sound volume level differences to fix. So time to test it :-) Regards, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
I had the same issue on my toshiba laptop
I found a workaround:
goto https://software.opensuse.org/package/pulseaudio
Click show other versions
click show unstable packages
download the rpm from option home:tiwai:branches:... (mine was 64 bit)
Install the rpm and reboot
audio is now working as usual
