You are very late entering this thread. If you read the rest of the thread you will find actions to enable you to select kprinter. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org icq#173753138

Sorry if I'm boring you. I have read the rest, but the first step is to select kprinter with the arrow - I think. -- Erik Jakobsen.

Thanks Patrick. I have the Postscript/kprinter in the dialog box. But every time I enter print, I have to delete the default string in the properties box, and to put in the kprinter --stdin. -- Erik Jakobsen.

Thanks Patrick. I have the Postscript/kprinter in the dialog box. But every time I enter print, I have to delete the default string in the properties box, and to put in the kprinter --stdin.
That's odd. Any time I enter *anything* different than the default string, lpr ${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME:+'-P'}${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME}, the new entry becomes default --for that printer--. When the 1st _Print_ window comes up, does the 1st entry window labeled _Printer:_ have 'PostScript/kprinter' in it? and then you click 'Properties' it should say: Paper Size: 'what ever, for me "Letter (*.5x11 inch)"' Print Command: 'kprinter --stdin' Tell me if this is not so and I will put some pix on my web site to show you. ???? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org icq#173753138

I also ought to be so :-)

Also here.
and then you click 'Properties'
it should say: Paper Size: 'what ever, for me "Letter (*.5x11 inch)"' Print Command: 'kprinter --stdin'
The Paper Size is equal :-) The Print Command is the default one. Not the 'kprinter --stdin'
Tell me if this is not so and I will put some pix on my web site to show you. ????
See above. I realize I'm jumping in late on this thread, so apologies if I've missed an important fact, but... Why not edit the unix.js file to hold the real list of printers? In my case I have an Epson C80 under SuSE 8.1 with CUPS. If I go to http://localhost:631/printers you'll get the definitive list of printers (SuSE installed five different versions of my Epson, all with different default settings). My unix.js looks like: pref("print.print_command", "lpr ${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME:+'-P'}${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME}"); pref("print.printer_list", "lp color high best photo"); // list of printers, seperated by spaces Works for me, YMMV. If there's a reason not to do it this way, I'd like to learn, please. Also, SuSE installed the foomatic drivers as standard. I changed these to cups + gimp and the "10 blank pages before the real stuff" problem went away. You can use http://localhost:631 to make these and other useful changes, like changing the default paper size for those of us in the colonies from A4 to Letter. 'Hope this is helpful... Patrick, Yes, I did read the past ten or so posts in this thread before I jumped in, so I did see the above post from which you are quoting. But the solution didn't seem to be working for the user, so I thought he might like to try something else. And my original question was "Why not edit the unix.js file to hold the real list of printers?" so if there's a reason not to do it my way I'm always keen to learn. (I'm a bit of a newbie myself...) that was the originally proffered solution, from /opt/mozilla/defaults/pref/unix.js
pref("print.print_command", "lpr ${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME:+'-P'}${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME}"); pref("print.printer_list", "kprinter"); // list of printers, seperated by spaces ========
