I got the following message in connection with editing my .muttrc and am unsure what to do: "Found a swap file by the name ".muttrc.swp" owned by: brian dated: Wed Mar 27 15:49:12 2002 file name: ~usr/.muttrc modified: YES While opening file ".muttrc" dated: Wed Apr 3 11:42:44 2002 NEWER than swap file! (1) Another program may be editing the same file. If this is the case, be careful not to end up with two different instances of the same file when making changes. Quit, or continue with caution. (2) An edit session for this file crashed. If this is the case, use ":recover" or "vim -r .muttrc" to recover the changes (see ":help recovery"). If you did this already, delete the swap file ".muttrc.swp" to avoid this message. Swap file ".muttrc.swp" already exists! [O]pen Read-Only, (E)dit anyway, (R)ecover, (Q)uit, (D)elete it:" Can anyone help? Cheers, Brian

When you were working on the file the last time you opened it up it was not closed properly with vi. So when you opened up the file again you have this error. If you go in and delete .muttrc.swp and then go ahead and reopen the file vi .muttrc everything should be fine again. -- 10:17pm up 10 days, 3:57, 1 user, load average: 0.07, 0.02, 0.00 Bob Barish www.bmtsolutions.com

And that is what the "(D)elete it:" command would do? I want to make sure I am not deleting my .muttrc Cheers, Brian

If you have an old .swp file lying around and you know it's safe to delete you use (D)elete it. It will only touch .swp files. -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A.
