Hello there, I'm trying to setup my USB webcam (Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000) under SuSE 8.2, with no success, the weird thing is that when I used to have SuSE 8.0, the same webcam was working perfectly with gnomemeeting (and I didn't have to cnofigure anything). Now with 8.2, it doesn't seem to work. When I try to use it under gnomemeeting I get the following error: Error while opening device /dev/video0, channel 0. A test image will be transmitted. Your driver doesn't support YUV420 format Then I went to SuSE knowledge base and there is a how-to to setup some specific webcams (specific chipset), I also tried that, and when I want to test it with motv I get this error: This is xawtv-3.85, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.20-4GB) /dev/video0 [v4l]: no overlay support v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=7): Invalid argument v4l: timeout (got SIGALRM), hardware/driver problems? ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(int=0): Interrupted system call ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=5): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=4): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=1): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=13): Invalid argument no way to get: 384x288 32 bit TrueColor (LE: bgr-) Does any knows what exactly is going on or how to configure a webcam under SuSE?, it was working on version 8.0! Thanks in advance Ernesto

Hey Ernesto, I had the same or very similar problem, IIRR, I fixed it with what comes next. Go here http://www.smcc.demon.nl/camstream/index.html and get the PWC *and* the usb-pwcx files for your camera (if that camera of yours is usb of course), untar them and read the 'read me' in each directory, the instructions are pretty simple, then when it/they are installed, open a console and as root, do a insmod -f pwcx-i386, you'll get a bunch of warnings and whatever, but it's okay. Here's a heads up though, where those files need to go is different in SuSE than in the instructions, so here's where they need to go: /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon/kernel/drivers/usb Anyway, go to that website, and you should be able to navigate around and get enough info to get your camera working. I'm running a Logitech WebCam Pro 4000 on SuSE 8.1 (pro). Here's the steps I had to take to get it working. I know it's a differant model than your but If my internal RAM serves they use the same driver. get the appropoiate driver from: http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/release.html Place the files in your linux kernel source dir (after a tarball backup I'd reccomend!). Run a make cloneconfig, make dep, make modules cp the modified modules to your /lib/modules/kernel-version dir (again after a tarball backup) That should allow the driver to fully load supporting your cam... Seems the drivers provided with SuSE are a bit behind the needed drivers for the cam... Perhaps this was just my issue but I tried the kernels from the dvd with same results... Hope this helps...
