I need to mirror IDE drives on my file server. Any way I look at it there are going to be at least three drives: one for the OS, and the two drives mirrored containing data. I do NOT want to put two drives on the same IDE controller. I know that Promise makes a really nice IDE control, have one in my new box at work. But I also know that both NT and 98 needed special drivers for it. Are there Linux drivers for the normal Promise ATA66 IDE card? Are there Linux drivers for the Promise FastTrak66 RAID card (http://www.promise.com/Products/ideraid/ft66page.htm) ? -- Sam Carleton ------------ http://www.bigfoot.com/~scarleton (Homepage) http://www.uptimes.net/hostinfo.html?hid=1218 (Linux Box) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yes, they're in the kernel for special eide chipsets on SuSE Linux 6.3.

No, there are currently no drivers for the Promise FastTrak66. But have a
look at http://www.3ware.com/index.shtml . They sell IDE RAID controllers
with up to 4 channels that do have Linux support, i.e. drivers and a tool
for configuring the card.

I'd recommend these cards, too. We took one of their Escalade 35xx cards to LinuxWorld, and it was impressive, to say the least. The only thing that's tricky is installing an OS from scratch, but that should change in a matter of days. Give the 3ware guys your money...they deserve it ;). -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
