[opensuse] No reboot option
I have SUSE 10.2 installed on a ThinkPad that also has XP installed. With previous versions of SUSE, when I selected restart, there was an option to hold the mouse on the restart button and a drop down menu appeared, which allowed me to select XP. This feature has apparently disappeared. Is there any way to get it back? tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

FYI: On my DELL M90 w SuSE10.2, I've got all the GRUB options under the menu "Restart". They appear when I click and hold the mouse... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So, I wonder why I don't have it? Or the ability to choose a profile on boot up? Also, how to fix either of the above? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

James, What do you see in KDE (you are using KDE, right?) "Personal settings" -> "Session manager"? There is a checkbox "Offer shutdown options" under "General". In all my installations (except the one where I chosen init level 3) this option is checked. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it is selected. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In all my installations (except the one where I chosen init level 3) this option is checked. I have also noticed that it's not available on my 64 bit desktop system, which has Failsafe and Memory Test options on the Grub boot menu. Which version of SUSE are you running?

Oops, I went to check it and ... surprise! "Restart computer" has no suboptions. I was pretty much sure I've used them. Probably it was with 10.1, installed before that. I'm using openSuSE 10.2 x86 versions. On dualboot Thinkpad I have in GRUB menu OpenSuSE 10.2, Windows and OpenSuSE 10.2 (Failsafe). On the dualboot desktop I have also Floppy option and all 4 options are there in "Restart computer". One difference is that on desktop I have Win2000, not XP, but this should not be the reason. I'll try to figure out what's the difference. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So, you're saying that you don't have the restart options on any system running 10.2? If so, it sounds to me like it got broken. Do you use profiles? If so, can you select a profile at the boot up screen and it actually switches? tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, there are no options on Thinkpad laptop, but they are there on desktop. One difference that I'm trying to check is that on laptop default option is 1 (WIndows) and on desktop it's 0 (SuSE). I do not believe it could be the reason, but I'll try to change it anyway. Also on Thinkpad I edited boot menu through yast, while on desktop I did not touch it.

No, I defined profiles but have not tried to work with them yet. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think I figured it out. Of course it was not default option. Go to Personal Settings -> System Administration -> Login Manager. Select Administrator mode and then "Shutdown" tab. Under "Miscellaneous" you'll see "Boot Manager". It was "None" on my Thinkpad. Chose GRUB and Apply and voila: Restart Computer has now this drop-down box with options. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That did it. tnx I wonder why it's that way now? Next, trying to find out why I can't switch profiles at boot. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
