[opensuse] Re: Burning DL DVDs with 10.3

Thanks for confirming it is still possible. Since I have already ruled out libata as the problem (by going back to the ide module), which made it to 86% before it failed, what burning program did you use? If k3b, which version? I am running 1.04, but assuming you used k3b, and the version on the original DVD, I could try reverting.
Strange, I have no problems at all. Although I am using k3b 1.1 SVN right now, I had no problems with 1.0.4. Are you sure your drive is OK? What errors are in the log in k3b? Charles

I know the drive is capable of burning DVD+R DL media, but it has been a couple years ago (9.3 IIRC). This is the last (5th) DL coaster, tried using the IDE system instead of libata (where I created the first 4). I will try it on another machine and see if it is k3b or not. That will use different hardware, but everything else is basically the same. You do mean you have no problems with DL media burning? Because up to now, I have had no problems with regular DVDR or CDR(W). It is only now that I need to copy a DL disk (5.6 GB). K3b created the iso with no problems. But 5 attempts at burning have left me with 5 failures. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

DVD burners can stop working suddenly with no warning. One day you get mad burning coasters, and can't find the cause. Change the drive, and it works. Other times it is the media, that it doesn't work well with your drive. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Well, I guess it must be the drive (I already tried 2 different media brands). It worked OK here at the office with the same kernel, libata, k3b, and media, but different burner. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Try increasing the DVD size to the size of your media in the size bar before burning: http://www.kriyayoga.com/love_blog/post.php/951 Charles

Mostly for the archives. I cleaned the drive with a cd cleaner (cd with little hairs to clean the laser), and burning to the same type DVD+R DL media that failed originally worked great. So my problem was not the kernel, nor libata, nor k3b, nor media. It was obviously a dirty DVD writer. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's interesting! I wonder if brushing the lens with a camera brush would work as well - but of course, reaching the lens is difficult. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
