[SLE] Update to above smb post - Q about smbfs in /etc/fstab
Hey, I just figured out how to mount with mount - t smbfs so you can ignore that unless you want to answer this: Can I somehow put that in /etc/fstab so that non-root users can mount /mnt/smb ? If so what should the entry look like? From the fstab(5) man page:
The fourth field, (fs_mntops), describes the mount options associated with the filesystem. It is formatted as a comma separated list of options. It contains at least the type of mount plus any additional options appropriate to the filesystem type. For documen tation on the available options for non-nfs file systems, see mount(8). For documentation on all nfs-specific options have a look at nfs(5). Common for all types of file system are the options ``noauto'' (do not mount when "mount -a" is given, e.g., at boot time), and ``user'' (allow a user to mount). For more details, see mount(8). ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Try the "user" option. Howdy, Sorry to ask such a simple Q, but: Could I please see a sample /etc/fstab entry for an smbfs share? I just spent half an hour reading the man pages and trying things, but all I get is: [mntent]: line 12 in /etc/fstab is bad mount: can't find /mnt/Cschomeserver in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab So obviously I'm doing something wrong. I tried these: //CSChomeserver.graphics/ServerE /mnt/Cschomeserver smbfs -o username=anyone, password= user and: CSChomeserver.graphics:/ServerE /mnt/Cschomeserver smbfs -o username=anyone, password= user But neither works - I'm probably missing some simple thing :-| (btw yes, the password is blank for NT user "anyone" - and I can mount this by hand now, with mount -t smbfs. Just can't figure out how to get it into fstab correctly) My apologies for dragging this out so long, JW At 02:46 PM 8/3/2000 +0200, you wrote:
