For skip-free Internet radio listening on a busy or flaky connection, crank up the buffer size in XMMS. Right click on the XMMS window, then, from the drop-down menu, select Options -> Preferences. From the Audio I/O Plugins tab, select MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player and then click Configure. Next, select the Streaming tab and increase the buffer size. If you have a lot of free memory, go ahead and make the buffer as big as you want. You also can reduce the Pre-buffer (percent) entry so that you don't have to wait a lot of pre-buffering time before your music starts playing. Happy listening.
