This may be OT but this list has been very helpful in the past. I have the official Pro version of SuSE 7.1 and would like to install it on a Dell Inspiron laptop that a friend will give me. It is out of warrantee. Someone had spilled wine on the keyboard. It works if you hook up an external keyboard so the internal circuits are ok. Any suggestions on how to proceed with the cleanup? Does the keyboard on the laptop came as one unit or are the keys integrated to a circuit board? Any help would be appreciated.

You could try taking it out and running it under warm water till it looks clean, then allowing it to dry thoroughly before putting it back in. I have done this before for a customer years ago (desktop keyboard and coffee, not wine). If the wine has dried and hardened this may not work any more.

It is removable. If this is a gift, and the running water doesn't do the trick, I would suggest ordering a new keyboard from Dell. It would be less trouble in the long run IMHO. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 "We can stand affliction better than we can prosperity, for in prosperity we forget God." --Dwight Lyman Moody

(racism) Have a scotsman lick your keyboard :-) *lol* (/racism). No, for real, I'd follow Joe&Sesil's advice, and maybe some contact spray will help after reassembly. In fact, it's wine, not sulphuric acid, so it should not have done irreversible damage to the material. Cheers anyway, hoping I will not spill my wine on my keyboard ... Run it thru the dishwasher. Before it goes to drying cycle take it out and let it air dry or use (hair dryer?). If the wine is worth it, lick the keyboard... A happy new year to all of you -- ~adj~ Ces mystères nous dépassent Feignons d'en être l'organisateur...
