SuSE 7.3 includes an RPM for VMWare workstation 2.0.4. Does this link point to a license file generator? http://www.mxlab.com/ftp/misc/crk/vmware/dm_203l.zip Does it generate licenses that expire far into the future? It appears to be a Win32 program, does it run in Wine?! Does VMware not support their customers and therefore take it up the arse? Cheers, PM

No, it doesn't. And please don't bother posting the correct link. All licensed, proprietary software should be payed for. The linux world may consist of hackers but not crackers. The stronger licenses are upheld the better. Then people would really see the value of free (in both senses) software. Instead of encouraging people to use illegal software, why not encourage projects like Bochs, so they can get a competitive product running. JMNSHO Anders

If you look at the VMWare site, version 3.0 is the current version. You can request a 30 day trial license for the Workstation version, or purchase the Express version 2.0.4 (only allows you to install Win95/98). VMWare's support is actually very good. (BTW, SuSE is a business partner with VMWare) I have had no problems with getting information from them, or getting the software to run... mind you, I don't go looking for hacks or cracks... You are on your own if you choose to steal a license code. I will not, and I doubt that anyone on the list would be willing to help you find your way through getting a crack code, or license generator to work. If you want to run Windows that bad, dual boot to Windows, don't be a software thief. C.

Just to know, but does VMWare emulate a specific hardware ? Or does it
emulate MY current hardware?

Specific hardware.... my VMWare express install (for example) emulates a Soundblaster16 for the soundcard, it uses a "VMWare SVGA(FIFO)" video card, an "AMD PCNET Family Ethernet Adapter" and so on. In actual hardware I have an nVidia video card, a SB Live5.1, Reltec network cards etc. C.

I have been using VMWare for 2 years now (bought the 2.x license and the 3.x license now) (And with the state of SA Rand now, it is expensive) I have always had good support from them. If you get a 30 day trial license from their web site, they shoud also support you. Most of the Linux software are free, don't go and rob the few that is licensed. They also support Open Source projects and they have a good reason for licensing. -- Andre Truter Software Engineer <-------------------------------------------------> < The box said: Requires Windows 95 or better... > < So I installed Linux > <------------------------------------------------->
