Further to my last problem report, I used the command "lprm -Qlp -" to remove all jobs. I then rebooted with a dos disk and tested printing using EPP printing mode in the bios. Worked beautifully, no problems whatsoever. That proves the printer works with the cable, and the box, and that the problem seems to be in linux. So, booting back into linux, I signed in as root and executed the following commands and got the following output. machine:/var/spool # lpr /etc/hosts.allow lpr: connect: Connection refused jobs queued, but cannot start daemon. machine:/var/spool # lpq waiting for lp to become ready (offline ?) Hi, I have a LaserJet 5L (no XTRA) myself and it works fine (with only 1MB!). The main thing is (as said before) that you have to select one of the ljet4 entries, but nothing of the ljet5 ones (this resulted in much scrap on the 'printouts'). Hope that helps.
