[opensuse] openSuSE 11.0 - startx fails as regular user
Just installed 11.0 tonight, and after a generally pleasant experience of it... well, something had to happen... When installing, I typically choose KDE to start with, then add on my own xinitrc file (modeled on the skel on provided) and run fvwm. I've never had a problem with this approach. This time, however, I get repetitive spew such as the below (also from .xsession-errors).
From the number of "Permission denied" in there, I tried running "sudo startx" and got KDE in "bomb screen" mode. Ok, its something, but the wrong thing overall.
For grins, I ran plain SuSEconfig, with no args, and it didn't make a difference with respect to startx. Not sure what happened there.. but a full logout and login "solved" the problem. Perhaps the groups => video hadn't caught on yet? Wierd, but solved. I think startx fails for some desktops, don't know why, but you can instead run the same desktop from the login chooser in runlevel 5. You could write a bugzilla... - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
