Hello Group: I have a very simply little USB web camera that works fine with xawtv. Question is where would I start to get that image to a file which can then be displayed by apache. I grasp much of this process but the grabbing of the video image, writing to a file based on a cron job (not from xawtv) is missing. Calling the ".jpg" from apache is understood. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~dwash " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@arrl.net Info: http://www.austinlug.org

There is a program called webcam that (I believe) is included as part of xawtv. It grabs images from your video device and can either ftp them to a remote site or save them locally. Type man webcam to learn more. Another program I like is camstream. Unlike webcam, it gives you a preview window that shows what the camera is currently seeing. Like webcam, it can either ftp or save locally. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional KDE 3.0.0 KMail 1.4 This is a Microsoft-free computer Bryan S. Unfortunately, Yahoo's linux version of their IM does not support the webcam thing yet. Your best bet for that kind of thing is GnomeMeeting. Do a yahoo or google search for the gnomemeeting website. The older version is just okay, but the newer version that requires Gnome2 everything, I hear is much better. Also, my Philips 740 works flawlessly on my 8.0 system. What model Philips did you have? Like Bryan said too, Camstream is a very nice app for webcams, I also use it. John
Upps.... I did a mistake. I sold my Philips webcam
that actually works fine on SuSE Linux. Sigh.....
So can I use gnomemeeting for Yahoo Messenger service
?

I am currently using a Logitech 3000 Pro, which uses the pwc module built into recent Linux distros. I also have a Philips Vesta Scan, which also uses the same pwc module. Both of these cams will probably give you a postage-stamp size picture, so download the pwcx module. Lots of great information is available at the link below. The title says Philips but it applies to more, as listed under "supported cameras." http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/index.html Regarding the second part of the question, yahoo messenger, I am sorry, but I do not know anything about it. ***************************************** Powered by Mandrake Linux 8.1 KMail 1.3.1 KDE 2.2.1 bryantyson@earthlink.net *****************************************
Hi I'm using "motion" for my frame-grabbing to a file. Easy to configure, and it works. Jaska. Viestissä Torstai 2. Tammikuuta 2003 18:13, Donn aka N5XWB kirjoitti:
