Apache installs by default into /usr/local as do a number of packages I have download from the net. SuSE puts bits in /usr/local and bits in /etc/httpd and bits in /usr/sbin ... and this is supposed to be a good thing? Please, please, SuSE, leave `/usr/local/' alone. _Nothing_ (besides the directory structure, maybe?) from the CD-ROM should install in `/usr/local'.

I know that, at least for Apache, you are waiting for some mighty decision from the committee of all Linux packagers (decision which might be slooow to come). But in the meantime, please make every effort to not put anything new in `/usr/local', and rather use every opportunity to empty it.
