RE: [SLE] Xfree86 4.0 and Nvidia HELP!
I don't know what signal 11 means, but I just went through this w/ my riva TNT card, so this is just based on my experience. I don't know if it would be any different w/ a Geforce2 card. Which nvidia drivers are you using? I used build .94. It worked better when I installed them from the tarballs (rather than from the source RPMs). Have you made sure that the Nvidia driver is loaded? Do /sbin/lsmod and see if the driver is there. If not try /sbin/insmod Nvdriver. Also, if your card is an AGP card you probably need the AGP driver agpgart.o. You can check for this and load it the same way. You should have renamed or removed any installed Mesa files (i.e. libGLcore.a) before you installed the nvidia OpenGL driver You also need to add Load "glx" in the 'Section "Module"' of your XF86Config file. There is also an excellent step-by-step guide for the nvidia drivers at: http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/00q3/000811/index.html Hope it helps! Hi, I have been trying to install XFree86 4.01 and then the NVidia drivers from my Geforce2 card. I have installed 4.01 and the driver, and then run xf86config, and changed the driver via VI to the NVidia driver. When I type startx.. I get the following error: Fatal server error: Caught signall 11. Server aborting. also seems to error on could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/ , removing from list. Anyone got any ideas, I have been trying for nearly a week.
