I'd quite to know myself, so if you get a solution, please post to the list. It seems it should be possible to start the X server with the -xf86config option pointing to one of two configuration files. i.e. set up 1280x1024 in Sax, copy the config file somewhere, then do the same for 1024x768. Choose the right config file with -xf86config for whichever resolution you want. I haven't tried it myself, but it might work. I actually used a version of the above hack which had /etc/X11/XF86Config as a soft link to the right config file. I just exited X then changed the link. The problem then is that the KDE gets confused - all the icons move about, windows restarted by session management end up off screen, etc. Maybe GNOME will be better? -- There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary, and those who don't
