OK, I contacted Logitech to purchase a webcam for Linux. They reccomended a particular model and provided me with a link for the driver I needed. the link was qc-usb: Linux Driver for Quickcam USB cameras.html It is a kind of a manual. That directed me to a sourceforge location to download the driver, http://sourceforge.net/projects/qce-ga/files/ I downloaded it unzipped it and then tried to make it. Thus leading to my present frustration.
I think I saw someplace in the manual that there is a CVS version also. Would that be better? If I can find it and download it, that is.
I'm using a Logitech webcam and I didn't have to make any special special driver. It does everything perfectly -- even autofocus and exposure balancing.
Have you tried just plugging in the webcam and testing if it works?
It's quite obvious from that fact that the makefile (in the tar bundle you're using) is trying to read a config file which was moved quite a bit of time ago that this source code is not maintained, and therefore, quite likely to cause you problems.
Hi Dirk, Yes Ihave just plugged it in, both in 11.3 with KDE3 and 11.4 with KDE4. Nothing. What is the model of the camera you are using? Maybe my best bet would be to return this one and get the same as yours.
