[opensuse] Configuring Gnus for opensuseforums via nntp
Hi, I seem to be not able to get Gnus work with opensuseforums. According to the FAQ of the forums there are servers A and B nntp.netiq.com and nntp.suse.com I have the following in my gnus.el as the gnus-selec-method is already defined for gmane.org (add-to list 'gnus-secondary-select-methods '(nntp "nntp.suse.com")) All I am getting is the following Opening nntp server on nntp.suse.com...failed: Error when connecting: 200 Welcome to forums.novell.com! (Typhoon v2.1.2.394) Error when connecting: 200 Welcome to forums.novell.com! (Typhoon v2.1.2.394) Unable to contact server nntp.suse.com: Error when connecting: 200 Welcome to forums.novell.com! I believe nntp.opensuse.org is the correct address You will probably do better discussing forum setup in the forums if you need more help. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Before I forget http://tinyurl.com/kceszt7 is the same problem I have with Emacs being 24.3
It sounds like something you'd need to bring up with the emacs and gnus guys? /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.2°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The problem is Typhoon newserver which is unable to understand CAPABILITIES command Gnus so the problem is solved by replacing it with HELP. I have patched the emacs-.24.3 nntp.el and will be submitting to development branch in the OBS. What I am missing
I've just created a news-server account (knode) using 'nntp.opensuse.org', no problems. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have tried knode as well and I know nntp.opensuse.org and nntp.suse.com works, but I am aiming to switch to Emacs for almost all things ;=) So something Gnus is not liking :=( Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Attachmate has four products, and four forums...and apparently *one* nntp FAQ for all which says "Select the appropriate DNS name", meaning: for openSUSE point your client to nntp.opensuse.org for SUSE Linux to nntp.suse.com for NetIQ nntp.netiq.com for Novell nntp.novell.com dd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The main difference between news.gmane.org and all the above ones is there is a DOS line ending character at the end of the 200 welcome line and I guess this is what Gnus is not liking. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
