RE: [SLE] sound on suse 7 revisited again and again and again
I am pretty sure I am right on this one. The file /etc/asound.conf is used to set the sound card mix options. All it is is to tell what parameter options you want. Yes alsactl can create such file but only if the mixer works which in my case isn't the case. alsactl also can read such file to unmute the card but it also needs the mixer working for this which in my case is not the case again =) Fact is you need a working mixer to read and construct /etc/asound.conf and as the mixer doesn't worked I am in a dead end here.

You're really going to need an /etc/asound.conf if you want to hear anything. The 'alsactl' program can be used to create an /etc/asound.conf. Also, an initial configuration is commonly created with muting enabled. Use the 'amixer' program to make sure muting is off.
