[opensuse] 13.1 audio issues
Hi all, Just installed 13.1 and have discovered a few issues with audio. I noticed I get no system sounds (I.e. Notifications, login etc) Also, Skype does not allow me to make any calls and says 'Problem with audio playback' Paul Groves-- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Using which DE? Login/logout sounds are turned off in systemsettings even on upgrades in 13.1's KDE 4.11.2 according to new upstream policy. If you want them you must turn them on. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. I had problems with sound, solved with pulseaudio and pavucontrol jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Paul, skype problem seems to be related to the latest pulse server. I packaged myself patched rpms for openSUSE 13.1. I made the packages available from my web site in the hope they may be useful. http://www.teodori.org/repository/utilities/opensuse13.1/current.html Regards, Francesco On Thu, Nov 21, 2013 at 10:24 PM, Paul Groves <paul.groves.787@gmail.com> wrote:

Could you elaborate on what the problem and the fix was? Thank you, Pete

Hi Pete, after some testing I discovered that the problem was latency related and found that setting PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 solved the problem. I usually repackage rpms from skype site, for a better tuning to openSUSE, before publishing the latest ones I applied a very simple patch to solve the issue.
