Hi everyone, I'm really sorry you told me some of this before, but I accidently purged my inbox. Which com port should I use for the new internal modem I'm installing tommorow? I was going to set the jumper on the card so that it is permenantly on that port, which I think'll make things simpler. I have a sound card installed, but since it sounds like its pretty hard to setup under linux, and since my mom in law doesn't really like sound on the machine I was just going to let linux be silent. Is COM2 perhaps a good plan? I have a printer too, by the way. Or should I use COM1 which means the COM1 port on the back of the machine can't be used, but we have a PS2 mouse anyway. Any help would be appreciated, I find all this kind of stuff really confusing. I'm installing the modem tommorow, hopefully all will go well :-) Cheers, Dom === _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Your ps-2 mouse uses irq12, so your com1 is open. Set your card jumpers to (irq4,3f8). Make sure you go into system bios and find your serial port1 settings and disable com1, or chnge it to another address and irq. Otherwise your motherboard's serial port will conflict with your card. Your soundcard should go on irq5, and printer on irq7. Make sure you check bios settings for your lpt port. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
