Re: [SLE] 'NO CARRIER' error with ISDN
hi i still can't get it working. i turned on extra messages and it reports "CHANNEL B1", then "CARRIER 64000", then "NO CARRIER". the terminal adaptor documentation states that 'NO CARRIER' is returned if: "Valid carrier not detected within period specified by register S7, or carrier lost for 300ms or more. Message is also sent when incompatible protocols are configured for the originating and answering ISDN terminal adaptor." ince register S7 is 30seconds, I presume that the problem is with protocols. When using the terminal adaptor in a win95 machine, protocol errors were also periodically experienced. any more ideas? thanks again, Andrew Smith -----Original Message----- From: Juergen Braukmann <juergen.braukmann@ruhr-west.de> To: SuSE Linux English <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Date: 22 December 1999 16:11 Subject: Re: [SLE] 'NO CARRIER' error with ISDN

i have a BT isdn ignition line and a terminal adapter (the adapter is like a modem). everything works fine under windows, but under linux, the adapter reports 'NO CARRIER' when sent 'ATD<phone-number>'.
my collegues had similar problems when they started with the terminal adapter. I remember they use the dial string ATDI<number>. Maybe, you can experiment with the usual X3 (ATX3DI<number>) as well...

(PS: probably won't have the dial string before the new year... if it persists mail me direct, I'll try to find so. after x-mas)
You will need to run X75 on top of HDLC. Do you?

I could be wrong, but I don't think -as ISDN is digital- you should get a carrier at all. In the digital world there are no such things as carriers. Unless you are trying to emulate analog connections. This smells fishy. If you ask me, there is something else going on. You /are/ wrong in the sense that most user interfaces of the driver software behave as if it were a modem you're talking to. They just translate the D-channel signals into modemese.
