[SLE] FYI - BP6 HPT-366 Patch
Hello, I am still working on my BP6/Highpoint ATA 66 controller "issues". A patch was mentioned, along with alot of discussion about the SuSE kernel and SuSE patches. Well, I was checking out the patches and code from SuSE, and comparing with Hedrick's patches. It seems that the HPT patch IS in the 2.2.16-SuSE kernel source, under the ide.2.2.16.20000705-lvm patch. Also, if one looks at the SuSE patches, you may like what you see there for the 2.2.16. They have pretty much taken the best from a very messy situation. I just spent a few days reading the kernel list, and I gotta hand it to SuSE! Not only do they grab the best and make a very nice kernel, but they ( the SuSE team ) are very big contributors. Kudos. Back on topic, though, if you look into the code for the ide.c , under block, you will notice that Hedrick actually had to NAME Maxtor 9xxxxx series as a special case! You may have remembered an earlier post of mine, wher I named my problem drive as being just that - Maxtor 9xxxx series. Interesting. Anyway, just wanted to share. Ron PS I'm still pi**ed that kbill is broken in 6.4! (haven't had time to fix it yet) BUT MTV ROCKS!! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Thanks a lot for your kind words. I have forwarded them to our kernel people, they were very happy about it :) Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/ 90443 Nuernberg, Germany Today is a day for firm decisions .....
