[opensuse] No sound to headphones
Hi, after installation of openSUSE 11.3 to Dell Vostro 1220 http://www.smolts.org/show?uuid=pub_b5e8a9b3-2a44-4453-8207-40f1ccc582b9 I found that after I plug headphones to the notebook, I still hear sound from internal speaker, but not from the headphones. It happens in KDE as well as in GNOME. When I boot from Ubuntu LIVE CD it works as expected. It did not happen when I was upgrading on ThinkPad. I'm not sure which information would help to solve it... I have actual system, nothing special. Also the hardware is ordinary... Any idea how to solve it? Did anyone faced it? Hi, have you tried opening up the kmix mixer panel and turning up the sound for the headphones in kmix? I am not sure what application controls sound volumes and mixing in gnome, but there must be some similar program to do it. The other thing you can do is to open yast and see if your sound card is configured. If not, you can configure your card and see if it picks up the headphones. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I did :-) but there is no entry for headphones in KMix. Nothing similar. I tried to turn up everything there, but nothing helped.

In YaST it it configured and basically, it works fine - only output does not go to headphones... Best regards, -- Vojtěch Zeisek Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux http://www.opensuse.org/ http://web.natur.cuni.cz/~zeisek/

You should find an entry for the headphones in alsamixergui. Have you looked there? BC -- If apathy is increasing where does it come from? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, nothing like this... :-( See attached image... :-( Regardless I plug headphones or not, I hear sound only from internal speaker... The settings is not neither among available channels in KMix. Do you by any chance have pulseaudio installed as well? I have found that pulseaudio for some reason prevents alsamixer from displaying all the available settings. What I do is to uninstall pulseaudio, get the settings right in alsamixer and then re-install pulseaudio (but you will need to uninstall/re-install pulse if you have to do more adjustments in alsamixer). You may also probably find this of interest, comes from a different distro but the principles should be the same: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting Also, have a look around in this set of docs because someone had such a problem as yours but it was solved - but I didn't follow the thread (in Ubuntu) and don't know how it was resolved. Try also here: https://launchpad.net/ by doing a search. Of course not! You have to go to Kmix's Menu:settings -> configure channels to make it visible. -- intaxification (n): Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
