I have not used Remote Desktop Connection to connect to a Windows XP remote desktop. My understanding is that the Remote Desktop Sharing uses VNC to make the connection. I have connected to a Windows XP machine running VNC that way (as well as connecting to a SuSE machine, using KDE desktop sharing, form a Win XP machine using VNC). I have however used rdesktop (you can find it on the SuSE 9.1 Pro DVD) to connect to a Win XP remote desktop and it works very well (I get much better results than VNC). HTH, Darrell

The server does (for now). The client is capable of using rdesktop to connect to an RDP server

Well color me uninformed. Thanks Anders, I was unaware that this worked with rdp. Darrell
Yes, I work this way day-in and day-out. If you are going to do more than just casual connections I suugest you install rdesktop on the linux, and infact you should down load the newest stable (maybe even the cvs build). IMHO. The rdesktop RDP client on linux has some decisive advantages over the windows client, though I haven't gotten local printing and local shares to work... I just use plan vnc for going to windows machines, but I don't use the RD on the Linux side....I just use vnc. -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

On WinXP and Win2003 you only need to activate remote desktop connection
(right click my computer, properties, remote, allow remote connections
to this computer -xp) or terminal services (2003) and then you can
connect with rdesktop and/or tsclient. If you wanna do it vnc style...
just install realvnc, tightvnc or any other vnc server/client
combination.
