Hi Glenn, I hope you have not been waiting too long for my reply, we have been off line for a bit. See specific comments below. misc.word.corp wrote:
Matt,
Thanks. All these apps and modules (wmmixer ant the like) are making me very tempted, but when I tried to install libPropList (necessary for WM) this afternoon . . . no luck. I ran ./configure, and it looked for "bison" (answer: no)then ran make, and it compained about the *absence* of bison. Back to the drawing board, I guess.
Bison is a parser thing that should be installed on your system if you intend to compile lots of apps. It is included on all versions of SuSE and I would imagine most Linux distributions. Have a look using YaST under the development catagories, it is there. If you install that WMaker should compile without problems.
Anyway, there's no necessity to send screenshots, but if you have a your copy of the .xinitrc, I'd love to have that . . .
Sorry, I made a copy on a floppy last night then left the damn thing on me desk as I ran out the door this morning. If you get WMaker to compile then run the wmaker.inst script as it says in the install notes. This sets up a directory called "GNUstep" in $HOME with all the files that you can personalise. It also writes a wmaker-specific .xinitrc in $HOME and backs up your old one to $HOME/xinitrc.todays-date, e.g., xinitrc.032598 for today. I make a copy of this as xinitrc.orig and a copy of the wmaker one as xinitrc.WM, then depending if I want to use wmaker or one of the SuSE supported ones I do either : "cp xinitrc.WM .xinitrc" or "cp xinitrc.orig .xinitrc" before I "startx". Setting the environment variable $WINDOWMANAGER is better but both methods have the same affect. I WILL send you my .xinitrc tomorrow.
BTW, does anybody at S.u.S.E. who's reading this happen to know if WindowMaker is included on 5.2? (I may not have it compiled and installed by the time the CD is out).
Thanks again,
Glenn
I hope you can get windowmaker going, it is worth the effort. Do let me know how it goes, I am happy to help if I can.
