A little off-topic, but could you tell us the name of this UPS unit which is happy to beep when wall power fails, but which cannot protect your motherboard? Some UPS's include insurance. Does yours? It's not clear that he meant the UPS failed; he does say "the power supply for my desktop", which could mean the internal power supply. For Stevens: I will refrain from posting what I think of Ubuntu ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As a matter of fact, my ups units all carry a lifetime attached equipment warranty that protects me against the financial loss of power-spike-damaged equipment. When the computer's power supply failed, as stated in my original comments (how could I have been clearer?) it blew the fu_k out of my motherboard, otherwise known as toasting, and put such a drain on the load side of the ups it sent it into shutdown and sounded the alarm. No input spike damage, no warranty payout. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
