I'm fighting for a longtime now against XF86 (SuSE 5.1 and co-delivered packages). Under Win 3.11 :(( my display, a Compaq 151 FS with a QVision controller runs at 1024x768. Under Linux the best I succeeded to get is 800x600.
what X-server do you use? Compaq QVision is on the black list. (The list of unsupported Hardware, that therefor has to be avoided) Maybe there are commercial servers available. I suppose you use svga. I do not know wether you can force it beyond 800x600.
Is there anybody using the same type of equipment and with a success story better than mine ?
we have qvision compaqs at work, but only win 3.11, never tried linux on those.
Thank you for any good answers.
