Opensuse 11.3 x64

The GUI Login just cycles, but never logs in, or it will break out to a command prompt where I can log in.

Then log in and have a look into Xorgs log file (in /var/log) and search for errors ( marked with (EE) ).

Startx fails and just says there is a GUI running (which) there isn't.

Manually switching to text mode ( with "init 3" as root) before doing the startx as user doesn't help ?

I tried both an Nvidia (6200) and ATI (4350) doesn't seem to matter, although I haven't installed specific drivers yet. Kinda waiting for a little more information on what the real problem might be. Broken monitor configuration ? The logfile should tell you
