trying to connect to a windows workgroup for print sharing
I'm running out of ideas, Unfortunately I must work within a window workgroup environment. I have a printer that is connected to a windows that is setup for sharing. Other windows machines can use it so I know its being shared. I have suse 9.2 running. Things I've tried. control center/Internet & network/local network browsing....I have setuup a username(Administrator), password, and workqroup. Not sure what I should use in the MS Windows encoding field. then I try control center/utilities/printer/print manager/ run the add wizard, select SMB shared printer(windows), provide user/pwd of Administrator/password, and fire off scan that finds nothing I've tried adding the workgroup, server name printer name, but I can't get to the printer. I've setup my hosts file with the printer server address and windows name I've tried control center/yast2 modules/network service/samba client, and try a browse, nothing shows up. forced a workgroup name, still nothing. any ideas where to look next?....joe

I don't know which "wizard" appears on your machine (was it YaST, or a KDE tool, or a Gnome tool, or the CUPS webfrontend). Regardless which nice graphical "wizard" fails, use command line tools to find out more about the real cause of your problem: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/11/jsmeix_print-smb-90.html Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5 Mail: jsmeix@suse.de 90409 Nuernberg, Germany WWW: http://www.suse.de/
Thanks for the info link, My wizard is yast, the mnbstatus command doesn't find any of the windows machines or workgroups. Suse is on the network, has and address, Internet connection etc, so I'm digging on why nothing is found...thanks...joe On Wed, 2005-02-02 at 09:23 +0100, Johannes Meixner wrote:

Can you browse your network using the Network icon on the desktop? Do you see the workgroup there? If not, most probably you have to enable the broadcasts in your firewall. Sunny -- Get Firefox http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=10745&t=85
