I agree, I thought it was highly interesting, and might explain a few issues I've been seeing. I don't think it was off topic
I concur. If this bug affects Linux, then it affects OpenSuse as well. The article seemed relevant and a good warning for anyone installing Linux on boards utilizing this Intel chip. I was considering upgrading the CPU on my main SUSE system, to an AMD X2. Hopefully that bug is Intel only. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

We have reviewed the reports and it is way overblown. The exact problem Theo de Raadt mentions affects only SLES 8 if at all. SLES 9 and SLES 10 and 10.0-10.2 are not affected. So: "No worries". This is on topic question. But Linus believes this problem is not a big deal, so Linux will not be affected. -- -Alexey Eremenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

"10.0-10.2" and also newer versions are not affected to our knowledge, so openSUSE 10.2 is not affected. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I bought this machine, brought it home, installed 10.2 x86-64 and have had very few complaints. Most of my complaints have centered around HAL. It seems that HAL has been fixed, at least to some degree, in one of the updates somewhere along the line as it works pretty well most of the time. [ not great and not all the time but better than before ] AND I didn't install Smart [ Stupid ] from the git go. Linus Thorvald said the problems with the dual core was no problem and so far I haven't seen where it is. Now that doesn't mean that when you install you won't run face first into one of the problems because your computer use and mine will be different. [ In other words, YMMV ] But for me it has been a very good setup. It's been about seven month's and I'm a happy camper with 10.2 x86-64 and a dual core Intel.
