[opensuse] 11.4 - No OpenOffice-base?
Guys, What's the story with OpenOffice? All I find for 11.4 is 'libreoffice'. I know they are supposed to be the same, but I don't really want to have 'libreoffice' on some computers with 11.4 and then 'OpenOffice' on the remaning computers. Is it going to be built? If not, anybody got a spec that will work to create packages from the oo tarball? -- David C. You don't need to create packages from the OOo tarball. If you want OOo over LibO, then remove LibO, and download the Linux version of OOo from the OOo website. You can use the setup script included in the tar.gz file and install as root... looks/works fine on any computers running 11.4 and 11.3 that I've installed it on. If you don't want to use the setup script, you can manually install the RPMs that are in the tar.gz. C, That's what I did. I just unzipped the ooo tarball and then moved the rpms I wanted to install into a tmp dir and then just did rpm -Uvh tmp/*.rpm It worked great. (the only need for the tmp dir is that ooo 3.3 ships with an older version of JRE. -- David C. I would go the other way - replace the older OpenOffice.org versions with LibreOffice. LibreOffice 3.3.1 was quite some step forward regrding compatibility if you get MS Office documents. Stefan

You can download the original OOo from www.openoffice.org. There are 32 & 64 bit RPMs available. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

But the original has less features than the old OO packaged by Novell, which was the Go version - and LO derives from that one. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. base in libreoffice seems to be the same as openoffice. it connects the same way as you connected before. the dialoge is the same too. Carlos may have fewer features, but he would never have less features. Besos. Fewer? Ok, I'll try to remember. In any case, OO has fewer features than GO or LO, specially those that facilitate importing/exporting/etc from/to/with MS-O. This is one of the reasons that pushed the branching, that the "official" OO was very slow to accept patches from outside, so that Novell had to publish their version separately. And LO took precissely from the GO version (our version), not the OO version. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. If the LibreOffice can convert files from pdf to dxf I'll convert my system right away. OO can only save in other picture formats. --doug -- Blessed are the peacemakers...for they shall be shot at from both sides. --A. M. It also converts docx stuff. Tables and layout for example.. Fewer problems, less hacking. But my button on Kickoff>Applications>Office still shows `openoffice suite' with the gaviotas (gulls?) icon.
