usbview and usbtree not working with 10.1
An rpm that comes with 10.1 called usbview provides lots of valuable info. and it is a binary. Also a Perl script I have had for awhile called usbtree down loadable from http://www.linux-usb.org/usbtree no longer work. They did with 10.0 and back. Obviously the kernel guys have redesigned the USB subsystem. These scripts are dependent on /proc/bus/usb/devices being present. With 10.1 the devices directory is not existent. Does any one know how to get these programs working? Do I need to file a bug report with SUSE to get this working? Cheers, Bob
The following that one of our members were kind enough to write me solved the problem. In the /etc/fstab there should be an entry for usbfs. Change it from noauto to auto and reboot. This should populate the /proc/bus/usb directory with the information that usbview needs.

Thanks from me for that hint too. Fixed VMware and USB for me. Stan

I had to send Bob a private message thanking him for the above solution (I accidentally deleted his post) because, as with you, it solved my problem with VMware. Such a simple solution, but so effective :-) . Cheers. -- This computer is environment-friendly and is running on OpenSuSE 10.1
