I have dolphin and firefox icons (launchers) on my taskbar. I remove them and within a little while they return. Does anyone know what's going on and how to get rid of them permanently? Hi Eddie, Doesn't their appearance in the "taskbar" simply mean they're running? What happens when you close (not 'minimize') the programs? Or did you mean 'quick launch' icons? regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No they are there before I run the programs. When I right click on them I get the option to "Remove This Launcher", which I select but I've noticed that they return after a while. I don't know if I am doing something that triggers their creation but I'm not aware of it. I guess they are quick launch icons. Please, how do you get rid of them or prevent their creation? Sorry, but I'm running GNOME 2 on 11.4 :-) I just asked for clarification so your problem would be more precisely understood. Thank you for supplying the additional details, as I'm sure you'll now receive some better responses. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Carl Unfortunately, I haven't had any other responses. On the other hand, I have discovered that they get created every time I log in. I've tried removing them and saving the session but when I log out and back in there are there again. I've tried removing the /tmp files /var/tmp files and .kde4/cache and .kde4/tmp files and log in and they are there. As I don't log out and in very often, I can live with it but it is annoying. I'm surprised that I'm the only one experiencing this (which makes me think that perhaps I installed something (or version) that I shouldn't have or that I've done something to some configuration file). Hopefully, someone out there knows what's going on. I'll be patient and hope that someone comes up with an idea. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, they are a real pain to get rid of, aren't they? :-) . Which version of KDE 4.8 are you using? Ugrade to 4.8.2 at least - better still, 4.8.3 - and the problem will go away. BTW, is this on a 32-bit system or 64-bit system? Thanks Basil and Sven, I'm sorry about my previous mailing saying that I hadn't received any other response. I somehow missed or forgotten about these. I am using KDE 4.8.3 (4.8.3) "release 503". Admittedly, I don't remember it happening before but maybe I've just forgotten that too. I'll try removing and adding the taskbar. Success!! Your idea Sven worked. Let me say first, that another symptom of the problem was that the launchers got receated every time I entered taskbar settings. However, removing the taskbar and installing a new one worked. Thanks very, very much! I think you can remove the automatically created launchers for default apps by removing and adding again the task-bar. Maybe a search via google or in the opensuse-kde mailinglist's archive helps. There have been others with the issue. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
