Re: [SLE] Hylafax after 6.4 upgrade
Hi Gerry, Hi everyone. Yes, I tend to agree with you. I can see nothing different in my 6.4 upgrade but have had lots of little problems to sort out that, had I had when I had less experience when I upgraded to 6.3, would probably have given up on. I still can't fax and if I try it blocks the modem. I have deleted all references to fax in /var/spool and reinstalled hylafax from both 6.3 and 6.4 cd's, run faxsetup as root etc. etc. But after rebooting with START_HYLAFAX=yes and sending the first job, it just sits there refusing to dial, blocking the modem until I set START_HYLAFAX back to 'no' and reboot. I can now at least delete the fax and it doesn't appear on the queue in Susefax but it still blocks the modem. Any help anyone? Thanks, Steve. On Fri, 28 Apr 2000, you wrote:

Although the laptop wasn't running Hylafax it was happily running with sendfax and susefax. Both of those are now broken. I have an open ticket with SuSE for a fix but nothing is back yet. BTW, SuSE will not help with Hylafax. It's not covered under the support unbrella.
I'm not really happy with 6.4. Other than the susefax and sendfax problems there are quite a number of fixes posted already (thank you SuSE!) that indicate to me that this release maybe wasn't quite ready for prime time??? I have also found that pgp will not compile on 6.4. It does on 6.3.
I'm seriously thinking of going back to 6.3 on the laptop and certainly will not upgrade my server.
Hi everyone.
After 6.3 to 6.4 upgrade, Hylafax will not send faxes or let me delete them from the queue. It also locks the modem. Messages tell me that there is a job pending. I have had to disable Hylafax at boot to be able to send this message! All was working fine under 6.3
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks, Steve

You should check out the SuSE ftp site. Although SuSE has just updated their English website to add an errata section (about time) they left out the Hylafax upgrade info??? If you go to either the German website and select download or simply go to the ftp update section there is a Hylafax rpm and two downlevel tiff library files that are needed for Hylafax to work. Hi Gerry, Hi everyone. Downloaded the hylafax update (but saw no tiff libraries): now faxes appear in /var/spool/fax/docq but still will not send. I reinstalled using faxsetup using ttyS0 instead of modem but it wouldn't accept it. Any ideas? Or is haylafax broken. Try going to this SuSE website... http://www.suse.de/de/support/download/updates/64_update.html While I don't read German I believe that the Hylafax information says that you should use the two lower level tiff libraries instead of the ones that come with 6.4 for Hylafax. Of course, I might be completely wrong??? It would be really nice if SuSE would put the information in English where it could be easily found. Gerry On Sun, 30 Apr 2000, Steve Sheriff wrote:

Hi Gerry Thanks. I can see what you mean. I can't translate it either. Here is what it says: hylafax (1968 Kb) 31.03.2000 hylafax 4.1beta2: Dieses Paket fehlt auf der SuSE Linux 6.4 CD Version. Sie benötigen zusätzlich folgende Pakete: tiff 3.4 und libtiff 3.4. Lesen Sie bitte auch den entsprechenden Supportdatenbankartikel. Could anyone translate it for us? Thanks, Steve. In generell, there is also: http://www.suse.de/en/support/download/updates/64_update.html but, as expected <grin> the update for hylafax is missing. Murphy's law striles again. Translation: Hylafax 4.1beta2: This package is missing on SuSE 6.4. Additional [to this package] you will need the following packages: tiff 3.4 and libtiff 3.4. Read the SDB Article as well. The article suggests to use the version (Hylafax) as mentioned above and the old tiff libs, that can be found at: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/6.4/gra1/libtiff.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/6.4/gra1/tiff.rpm good luck! It was mentioned in this list that they had problems building hylafax for 6.4. So, they didn't include it in the CDs. Once they fixed it they posted it in their ftp site, and that's where it is. I also encountered loked modem problems when I used 6.3. The problem was caused by my using the link /dev/modem instead of /dev/ttyS? in my dial up program. Check your configuration files and use /dev/ttyS? in all instances. -- Rafael Herrera Laboratory for Computational Neuroscience University of Pittsburgh http://www.neuronet.pitt.edu/~raffo -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hello, take a look at my HylaFax HOW-TO for SuSE users posted on the HylaFax site. www.hylafax.org click on FAQs and look for the word SuSE It is set up for SuSE 6.2 and SuSE 6.3. 6.4 should be the same as 6.3 in setup. It's very very detailed. Good luck George Sat, 29 Apr 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:

Hi George, Hi everyone. Thanks for the great documentation. It works for 6.3 but not 6.4. The jobs simply sit in the queue without being sent. Subsequent jobs get the error 'blocked by concurrent job'. The only thing I can see different in the documantation is that the question: Should an entry be addad to /etc/inetd.conf [no]? does not appear after doing faxsetup. The jobs appear in /var/spool/fax/docq but never get sent. Has anyone got hylafax running with 6.4? Hello, go to the HylaFax site www.hylafax.org They have a thread such as this one. Unlike this thread, you can send an email to it, without having to sign up. So send an email, in great detail, describing your problem. Note what /var/log/messages does when trying to send a fax, for instance. The email is flexfax@sgi.com Go to the HylaFax site the next day, and see what answers are posted. It's a slow, but solid thread. If you do this, you will get the help you need. Good luck and please let me know what the problem was. George Sun, 30 Apr 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:
