[opensuse] Screen capture and virtualization
I'm working on a small series of tour/tutorial videos and am looking for a good means to do high quality screen capture of a VM. I'd be doing it under openSUSE unless there is a compelling reason to do it in Windows. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I installed simplescreenrecorder from packman and it seems to do a pretty good job. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

ksnapshot works fine and you can initialize it from a full-screen vm using the <ctrl><ctrl>... key sequence. high-quality is not really possible in any "screen" capture as you cannot get better than the screen display, ie: will look *good* as long as it is displayed no larger than the screen where it is shot. vw and gimp both can do screen captures. I'm sure gnome also has capability but I cannot tell you where. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

ps: a screen-capture in windows is no better, still a screen capture. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 There is a Video Capture tab under the display settings of the Virtual Box. The quality of the produced webm media file is not bad. The x11grab of ffmpeg is also an option. The simplest command is: ffmpeg -video_size 1440x900 -framerate 30 -f x11grab -i :0.0+0,0 output.mp4 here is one with more parameters: ffmpeg -y -f x11grab -framerate 30 -video_size 1440x900 -i :0.0+0,0 - -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -qp 0 -preset ultrafast output.mov the -video_size option controls the output resolution (cannot be larger of your display resolution) while the -i switch controls the display (:0.0) and the area of it (x,y) which must be captured. Which virtualization software are you using? I mean, some of them already support screenshots and video capturing. ;-) Have a nice day, Berny -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
