I have a US keyboard and need to map 6 keys (3 lower and 3 upper case) to NO (Norwegian). Can someone tell me how key mapping can be done in SuSE 8.1 (and 9.0)? I also need to be able to easily switch between the two keymaps. Terje J. Hanssen
Hi Assuming You mean KDE UI... Install the norwegian KDE language package with Yast2. (open terminal, run "sux", give root-password, and start "zast2", rememeber to install both KDE2 and KDE3 language packages). Restart X-server, and log-in. Then select the keyboard from control-center. Jaska. Terje J. Hanssen kirjoitti viestissään (lähetysaika Lauantai 14. Helmikuuta 2004 17:47):

Hi Jaska, I have to add that I for this case don't sit on my SuSE console, but use GDM (Gnome sessions) on a networked client X station (a Sun Solaris workstation using XDMCP). My SuSE console is installed with Norwegian keyboard, so on that side it OK. But my Sun running the X server has a US keyboard installed. When I use it to run Solaris/CDE locally, I have a little keymap program running with a X widget and two buttons, English and Norwegian to switch between. I thought of something that could correspondingly keymap between US/NO also when running Gnome remotely for a spesific user with this keyboard. Does this change your suggestions? Terje Jaska wrote:

Its also sometimes useful to use the Alt Gr combinations rather that cycle through langauges: e.g. Alt Gr + a = æ, Alt Gr + o = ø. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
