[opensuse] Netbook with openSUSE 11.2
Greeting openSUSE I'm looking at getting a netbook, I've used openSUSE 11.2 with kde 4.4.x on dekstop and laptop works great. For those that have tried 11.2 on netbook, looking for some feed back, like what netbook, any issues problems getting it to work with opensuse etc..... Thanks in advance, Tony -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Tony I have a Dell mini 10v running 11.2 with KDE 4.4. Anything worked out the box but the wifi (BM43XX). Loading manually the proper driver get it done.

Tony Hi See sig for model. Sound, bluetooth, wired/wireless (ath9k), webcam, desktop effects all work fine in Gnome, next milestone release I'm going to try out KDE4 for a change. 11.2 all works fine as well, but I'm mainly using Gnome (multi booting SLE11,11.2 and 11.3)
I also run 2GB of RAM and replaced the 160GB for a 250GB model I had here. -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 3 (i586) Kernel 2.6.33-5-desktop up 3 days 0:19, 3 users, load average: 0.05, 0.01, 0.00 ASUS eeePC 1000HE ATOM N280 1.66GHz | GPU Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For my wife i've bought an acer-aspire-one, with some crappy os pre-installed on it. I've installed 11.2 on it, It works good allthough i've to mention two things. The machine came with just 512MB. Theoratically the mem can be enlarged, but not an easy job. Not even compared with other laptops/netbooks. Not a manco from the netbook, but more from resource wasting coders, who assume everyody should hace atleast a dozen of gigabyte mem.... Secondly, a 10" display is actually too small for apps like evolution One thing that helps (a bit) is to have the taskbar disappear automagically when not needed. wifi works out-of-the-box, as it has ssd, it's nicely quiet hw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've got an Asus Eee PC 1005HA-H and it's perfect with openSUSE. I picked the 1005HA because I could bump up the RAM to 2GB (from the default 1GB). It has a handy hatch on the bottom you can pop off... makes it really easy to swap out the RAM. Installing openSUSE is a breeze... either use a USB DVD drive or you can drop openSUSE onto a USB key and install from there. No special tweaking needed... works out of the box with 11.2 and whatever DE you prefer. I use KDE4, and it works fine with that, even with the desktop effects turned on :-) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

again, i can say exactly the same about the 901go. the 901go has a builtin umts-modem with a sim-card slot. i bought a prepaid mobile-broadband-sim-card and it works flawlessly! in networkmanager i have an extra "mobile-broadband"-tab where i setup my connection. works perfectly. -- Rainer Klier Research & Development xyzmo SIGNificant Group | Austria | USA | Germany A-4052 Ansfelden, Haiderstraße 23 Tel.: +43 7229 88060-0, E-Mail: rainer.klier@xyzmo.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've got a HP Mini 5101 running Plasma Netbook Reference Edition (aka 11.2 + KDE 4.5pre). It needs the broadcom-wl wifi driver from Packman, but otherwise everything works* very well. Have a Dell Mini 10v, check out: http://lizards.opensuse.org/2010/01/04/opensuse-11-2-on-dell-mini-10v/ Only thing I do not like about it is that the buttons are integrated into the track pad. Makes for difficult clicking IMO, thus I bought a small wireless mouse. Robert
Thanks in advance,
Tony
