What is ACPI and why did disabling it work???????????
Google can find you the answer to what. Why is because ACPI was young and inexperienced when the BIOS for your old puter was written. Need to disable ACPI to install is common in puters of yours' vintage. That's why the initial menu makes the option easy to find and use for those who don't find and read installation instructions. Possibly a motherboard BIOS update is available that would have obviated its need today, and might in future installs.
The OS is working fine now that it's installed.

At Billie: Fascinating.....and disappointing. I did not receive the above message of yours in opensuse-help. Did the mail server have a glitch at that time?
