I worked for one of Big Blue's competitors during the late '60s and early '70s. There is a lot of paralleism, for sure. Big Blue would "invent" and market grand technologies that were cloned from others. They would send in a hord of Vice-Presidents to betruss a Computer Dept manager before his (yea, it was all men in those days) managers to explain away why critical systems never worked.
Then OS/2, clearly superior technically to Windows, lost.
How soon the many forget.
