Hello, all-- I seem to remember that there was a thread on .pdf, but I don't remember the result. Since I've been (until tonite) using Linux pretty much exclusively, I would like to know why .pdf files do not show on screen in Firefox, and Konqueror just crashes. (SuSE 10.0.) and what can I do about it? Two computers make the use of two OS's simpler, altho I do have SuSE on this basically Windows machine. I do intend to use Linux more frequently--I've been on this list for at least 5 years. I've found, f'r example, that I can now read and print files written in .rtf, using OO. Couldn't do that before now, so it's a help, seeing that I edit a journal (for the PSGA) which comes to me in MS digital format, from a MAC. (BTW, the MAC crashed bigtime, a few weeks ago. I don't have the details, but apparently it was a mechanical failure, and backup to an XP machine saved most of the day.) I've had to convert to a new monitor--my old lovely Sony died. I got an LCD display with not as many pixels, but I'm surprised that I'm getting happy with it. The blacks seem to be better. The weight is about 25% or less. Tiger has the X2gen (19") for just over $200 with the rebate, which (so far) is good up to 19 Dec. Seems to be working OK, and almost all the monitors have the same pixel pitch--.294 mm. You need to turn the brightness down a skosh, which is a little tricky, but possible. I'm seriously thinking of getting another for the Linux machine, which has a 17" Sony display. I'll have to see how this works out, with a lot more experience. Over to you-- doug -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Do you have the package dragonegg installed? If you do, uninstall it, as it seems to be having problems Otherwise, make sure you have the acrobat reader plugin installed in firefox

Deleting the dragonegg and restarting Firefox 1.5 in SuSE 10.0 did the trick in having pdf show inside the browser. thanks -H

That's silly. They're installing the acrobat reader plugin a second time to get it to become registered before the broken dragonegg plugin. If the problem had been a missing plugin, firefox would have said it didn't know what to do with the file

For Firefox enter "/opt/MozillaFirefox/lib" This copies the shared library. I don't know why the symlinked version does not work. -- Jerry FeldmanBoston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9
