[opensuse] manual install openoffice in openSUSE
Hi, I have downloaded the openOffice from this url - https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html . But I am not finding a way to install it manually. I am using suse 13.1. Any help on this ? -- ================ Regards, Arup Rakshit ================ Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Probably the file is called: Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz So first comes gunzip (providing 45 rpms). The gunzip will leave you with a tar ball that will then need to be untared. Then you will have a bunch of rpms. So just untar with the -zxvf options. Then you will have the rpms. Harrie, Yes, you are right. After unzipping I got a folder `en-US`, and it contains below rpms. I've searched Google for information on this, with no hits. My laptop died recently after an protracted illness. I need to replace it, and I am considering an all in one. The main reason for that choice is that I would like a computer capable of displaying music, on a music stand, in an easily readable size, as well as internet web and email access. A touch screen would be nice for moving between music pages. My question is: is SUSE compatible with touch screen all in one computers? I had a lot of trouble with my last laptop and couldn't get dual boot to work with the new Microsoft boot system; has that been addressed on newer distros? Also, are touch screens reasonably well supported? Any guidance would be very much appreciated. Please, please, do not hijack threads. You hit reply on a post From: Arup Rakshit, with "Subject: [opensuse] manual install openoffice in openSUSE". Then you deleted the subject line, and replaced it with your own. This still shows as a reply to Arup's post, and it muddles things. It is known as "thread hijack". Please don't do it. Instead, use the "new post" feature of your mailer, and write the address. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Firstly, if you unpack[##] the main archive of LibreOffice (ie, the one which is something like 201MB big) you will find a file called README and also one called 'install' - so you have the answer to your first question as to how to install it. Secondly, this discussion was already raised a couple or so months ago where I gave the way *I* go about installing a new version of LibreOffice and then another person gave *his* way of doing so. Look in the archives - http://lists.opensuse.org/ - for the answer. [##] Use mc (Midnight Commander) to unpack the archives: highlight the *tar.gz file(s) and press F2 - and select 'z' from the list.
