What would it take to get a SuSE newsgroup up? I havn't got a clue.. There seems to be enough traffic. Thanks
Why have a newsgroup? just more chance of spam.

I have had the same thought. A news group would be nice. What happened to me today is but one example of why a NG would be advantageous. My mail server was moved from one server to another. During the time that the new server was running without the proper user database, I probably lost mail sent to me.
It would be nice to be able to search for answers that have already been posted to questions. This could cut down on repetition. I also have a problem managing the large amount of mail that I get. Being on mailing lists, especially ones as busy as this, causes my mail management problem to increase greatly.
I know basically what it takes. I have set up news servers with Netscape's Collaborate. I am not sure what resources this would take. My news groups are small. In a few months I may have resources capable of supporting a modest sized NG.
As far as spammers go, kill 'em! Well, perhaps we could have a closed news group instead. There are ways of accomplishing this.

The other option for a new newsgroup is to reflect the list to a newsgroup. I have participated in a few newsgroup creations in the past for OS/2 stuff and had decided at one point to reflect a mailing list to a newsgroup. This never happened though. Each approach had its advantages. I would vote for a reflected mailing list to newsgroup approach personally. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ----------------- -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
