Yes, same workgroup name. But I think you misunderstand the question. On the Suse desktop, the have the icon named Local Network. I want to see my samba box in that, like network neighborhood. Not all the users in my network know the names of the pc's and Network neighborhood is familar.

My Primary system has a failing mech. So I took a donated system and another hard drive I had for backup and assembled it to be a Samba server, to back up my stuff to (manually) and use it as a file server. I only set up Samba once before and found my problem on the WIndows side (lm announce) and now am having a different problem. When you open Local Network from the desktop, I get unable to find any workgroups in your network. I would like to get my server named Samba to show up. I have an old Windows system that I will be bringing back from a relatives (my old gaming rig) and a newer gaming rig that will be set up in this network. But more and more of my machines are Linux.
check to make sure that you have the workgroup name the same on the samba machine an the windows machine for starters. sounds simple but sometimes the simple thing is the fix.

I know nmb and smb are running, and guest browsable is set to yes. I thought that was all I needed for that.

Please note "On the Suse desktop" is not really correct due the lack of telling which "windows manager" you are using. Linux and SuSE have dozens of windows managers available and basically 2 X servers (XFree86 and X.org). I must assume that you mean the window manager KDE. lerninlinux@comcast.net wrote:
