I don't want baloo at all, I like better old fashioned locate.
Ditto, scrap that is not essential (indispensable) should never be made into a 'dependancy'.
How can I disable baloo?
Not jus disabed, DUMPED! What's the point of keeping something aboard if it's not being used?

nothing new here, I can't find balooctl but I find a "search" tab in *kde* control center and disable it here. Will see if it does the job thanks jdd -- https://artdagio.fr

/usr/bin/balooctl from baloo5-file-5.111.0-1.1.x86_64.rpm balooctl disable one could experiment with: rpm -e --nodeps `rpm -qa *baloo*` and if problems arize, reinstall the baloo files previously deleted -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc

well balooctl status shows I already removed the baloo index (from kde setup) and I could disable it entirely (and can reenable it if necessary. I still don't know why balooctl was not installed as default, but I can live with this :-) thanks jdd -- https://artdagio.fr

Long ago, my memory can't dredge up when, I disabled file search ( System Settings -> Workspace -> Search -> File Search ). IIRC that stopped baloo. YMMV I just do "chmod 0 /usr/lib/baloo*". And then delete ~/.local/share/baloo/index so that it doesn't bloat my backups. -- Bob Rogers http://www.rgrjr.com/
