[SLE] Vmware strangeness after upgrade
I upgraded from 6.2 to 6.3 last night. It all went mostly OK, but I was left with two problems, related I think. My network card wasn't recognised when booting. The module wasn't being loaded. If I loaded it manually and restarted the network it was happy. I found the line in modules.conf was reading "alias eth0 off". I changed it to "alias eth0 tulip" and all was happy again. But I have a similar problem with Vmware. I have 1.1.2, downloaded and installed by hand rather than off the disk. This also seems to fail to load the module at boot time and later says I have to run vmware-reconfig.pl. When I do, it takes the vmware things down, then puts them back up again, and it all works. After a reboot it's broken again. What do I need to to tweak to have the Vmware module loaded correctly at boot time? -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Have the same problem, haven't gotten around to solving it though ; ) Since I do not reboot often it isn't a big hassle. Check out the faq and support pages at vmware. I had a terrible problem once getting vmware started. vmware-config.pl wouldn't run either, complaining about the kernel. The fix for me was: make mrproper (which *really* cleans out your kernel build environment You'll have to re-enter all your kernel choices again) make depend make bzImage (whatever your kernel) mv arch/i386/boot/..... /....... make modules make modules_install lilo sync reboot Then run vmware-config.pl again. Thanks,
Might help to know where you are located as I use a local company I would guess that is the case with many admins. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R.
