I downloaded the 2.4.7 kernel got both k_deflt-2.4.7-16.i386.rpm an also k_i386-2.4.7-17.i386.rpm then let yast update the system for me then i ran lilo an all looked ok. rebooted an i get errors as following, loading module aix7xxx insmod aix7xxx no module by that name found. loading reiserf ... insmod reiserfs no module by that name found kmod failed to excute /sbin/modprobe - s -k block-major-8, erno = 2 can not open root device "805 or 08:05" please append a correct "root=" boot option kernel panic: VFS unable to mount root fs on 08:05 what did i forget to do. thanks for any help. I have upgraded kernels in the past an had no trouble but that was on ide systems. jack malone Network Administrator EAST TEXAS LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE BLIND dba HORIZON INDUSTRIES 903-595-3444 http://www.horizonind.com
Sounds like you forgot to run mk_initrd and lilo before rebooting or the
required modules are missing from /lib/modules/2.4.7 or both.

Boot from the install boot disk or cd-rom, load required modules such as
scsi and filesystem drivers, then choose the option to "boot installed
system", selecting your root partition (/dev/hda3?). If you've loaded all
required modules then your system should come up Ok but running the kernel
version on the boot disk.
Now go to /boot, backup and remove any existing initrd's and run mkisofs and
watch the output - check that new initrd's are created and then run lilo.
Alternatively, once you have a running system use Yast to to choose a
standard kernel - this will copy over any required modules to the
/lib/modules directory. Then make syre that the kernel is referenced in
yout lilo.conf, run mk_initrd, run lilo.
Good luck.

Don't forget you need modutils for 2.4.7 as well.. -- Regards Cliff Sending an email as follows will get you my public gpg key... To: cliff@raggedclown.net Subject: send public key
I have apache running, I've followed the cook book for creating my own certificates, and I've modified the httpd.conf file by adding the virtual host section, but it has seemed to not make a difference. Still does not work. Can anyone point me to a quickstart or howto to get a basic config working with https: Thanks. (suse 7.2 prof)
