[opensuse] 11.0 - openSuSE Updater Fails (Repeatedly) on Tonights Updates
Listmates, Tonights updates of xorg-fonts, jasper, hal and mozilla fail repeatedly with error dialog box messages about missing files to the screen. However, the files are actually in the update repository and the files are actually downloaded to your computer -- they update just partially fails. After the first failure, the dialogs all concerned xorg. Of course with everything going to the qt or gtk crud dialogs (or whatever they are), there is no way to copy the text of the error dialogs to share with the list, so I just took screenshots. Each screenshot is of a separate dialog window error message. The original update listing of files is 54k, the remainder are about 12k. (so much for a 60 byte copy of the text from the error). The list of updates tonight were: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/hal-jasper-ff-xorg_... On the first failure, the xorg errors that I caught were: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... (I may have missed one or two dialogs) After the failure, the openSuSE updater icon says there are new updates and I check the details and it is the same exact list as before. So I choose install again, and this time it is mozilla that fails (apparently xorg was installed successfully on this run). The errors were: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... Same updater icon behavior, the next failures on the next install updates go-round concerned libjasper: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... Same updater icon behavior, the next failures on the next install updates go-round concerned hal: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... Now obviously something is being installed for the error messages to change on each successive running of updates, but I'm not sure what or in what order, because running the updater again when it showed new updates available resulted in more mozilla errors: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/zypper/error-patch-not-fou... Don't know what to make of it, but I am curious is others are seeing this behavior? Also, is there a way to copy the text from these dialogs that I don't know about yet? I would really like to be able to post and discuss the errors instead of a string of screenshots, but I haven't been able to with the new dialog. Also, could these be due to the change to the updater app using the new Package/Policy Kit backend to zypper. I didn't think I had done one of the updates that would force that change yet. The updater app still shows show zypp backend, but the packagekit backend is apparently available as an option. Any thoughts would be appreciated. -- David C. How should it be changed, since this is 11.0? The text will also appear if you run "zypper up" on a commandline, which is easier to paste. This likely is again the transient error where the metadata is appearing faster on servers than the RPMs. It should go away in some hours, run "zypper refresh". Ciao, Marcus
Marcus, list, I understand the metadata problem. However, the issue is that I'm seeing more and more frequently and not just with the 'updates' but also will all packages. Today there were probably 25-40 files in Buildservice/Java: that failed with the following error: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/yast/more-pkg-not-found.pn... In addition to the java issue, the entire gcc repo vanished: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/tools:/gcc/openSUSE_11.0, it still gone... Probably moved and I missed the notice.... In the past, using my every few days update policy, I would go for months never running into the advance metadata issue, not I can't hardly update of load packages without something causing errors with yast or zypper. I was able to get all but the fileshareset and kdenetwork3-InstantMessager updates to apply manually using YaST Online Update (or perhaps Software Management, I don't remember which). The two that wouldn't apply are due to conflicts with KDE 4.1 components. mike. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes I had that problem yesterday on my 11.0 i386 install, but there was no x-org update, the problem started with hald. What I did was to un0check all but one and let it run, then repeat the process until finishing with mozilla-xulrunner.

No thoughts here David, I'm just trying to get MythTV to compile and install. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
