If using bash, add this to your .profile or .bashrc export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 Also add this to be sure: export MOZILLA_HOME=/path/to/netscape_directory Note: This is the path to the directory containing netscape, do not include the netscape executable itself in this variable Also make sure the user you are trying to run netscape as has a writable home directory.
